Zhang JiajieAn Ancient & Modern Homesickness By Tian Hoawen

Artwork by Tian Hoawen

Showing at the West Wing Gallery from June 17 to July 24

For over 14,000 years people have made a home for themselves along the Lishui River, Hunan, China. Originally established as a dock and commerce village, Zhangjiajie is today, a city bustling with locals and visitors alike. As cities grow, their historical areas can be considered a burden, and often are lost to progress. Young artist Tian Haowen has captured one of these now destroyed heritage streets in a grand continuous 70 metre long drawing, filled with every detail and character that used to call this special place home.
